Posted: Mon Aug 18, 2008 9:21 pm Post subject: any REAL money making opportunities, for new agents ???
hello
my wife and i got our L&H licenses last year
and well its not been a prosperous road thus far... i own my own company (been in business over 10 yrs - non insurance related) and my wife is a medical professional (who also works for herself)... we both have a lot of time on our hands and hoped to make some money selling insurance...
we havent found the right opportunity yet
feel that there are perhaps a lot of agencies out there that dont have the agents best interests at heart... i am not about working for someone else...
if anyone knows of the BEST opportunity
to make money selling insurance... then please share/discuss what that opportunity is all about...
look forward to hearing it!

It seems to me from your post that you haven't identified what your target market client profile looks like or even what insurance products or services you are going to offer.

Well.... the harsh reality is client's aren't going to come to you.
Your job description is to actively seek out individuals who you suspect need the insurance products or services you are marketing.
You have to match their needs and circumstances with your products and services, if you can't do that or if you don't understand that you will not make any money in the insurance business.
You have to affirmatively, actively, daily and continuously contact new persons and tell them what you have to offer.
Selling is insurance is simply, but it's not easy.
Well, at times it may take a little longer for a business to gain pace, and one year is not a very long time. So, please don't lose hope, you may still stand a chance in striking luck as an insurance agent.
I'd agree with what our guest has mentioned in his post, its of utmost importance that you rightly identify your target market. You need to chalk out a plan whom you'd like to approach for business.
You have said that you have got the L&H, but haven't mentioned whether you are concentrating selling life or health. Identify your strength and also understand the demand in the market.
Prepare yourself a daily selling schedule. Make a list of the clients you would like to contact in a day.
Start with cold calling. It's not so that everytime you'll call a prospect, he/she will respond to your call. Prepare yourself to absorb 'no' as answer.
Take help of the local newspaper and TV channels to advertise your agency. You can also do it with the direct mailers and flyers. They may yield you some result.
Social networking is the most important factor in an agency business. Increase your interaction with the locals and neighbors. try to attend social functions and seminars. Meet as many people as you can.
Ask for references from your existing clientele. These can serve best as qualified leads.
There are online lead generating companies available, you can buy leads from them as well. But it might cost you high. However, it still worth trying.
I've had luck with autodialing. They company I use is acceleratedvs.com They have the best rates and can guide you with what you need to do to get started _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved.
Hey Randy - How does your auto dialing work? Are they getting a pre-recorded message and opting through or is it just a dialer and you pop on the line? I've heard that there are compliance issues with automated messages and do not call. Do you know anything about it? (Not a jab, I'm legitimately interested. _________________ www.insureswohio.com www.retirementswohio.com
Since the OP has decided not to participate in his/her own thread it becomes abundantly clear why they haven't made any money selling insurance....
....there are only 75 million baby boomers out there who are going to need, medicare supplements, long term care, annuity guaranteed lifetime income streams, estate planning, 2nd to die policies, life insurance trusts, many have federal estate tax problems, need medical insurance for younger spouse, protect IRAs, 401Ks from market downturns, need non-qualified pension plans, need business buy-sell agreements funded with life insurance, short term medical for new employees, may desire to establish a charitable legacy, just to name a few things and...and...and...
He/She wants to know.....

Yes, I'd quite agree to the fact that you can't really look forward to people calling you for coverage offers...you being the agent would need to do all the hard work...would not only need to explain the benefits of different coverage in their lives but also why it is so important to get them covered for the unknown. It is often about 'how you sell things than what you're selling'.
Thats why many of the starters would like to work as captive-agents for a couple of years...gain the much needed expertise & then move on with their own independent agencies.

It is good to know InsuranceGuyandGal are keen to venture into this business.
Yes, we can make money selling insurance. But I hope making money is not the only reason we sell insurance.
Life insurance is a long term contract that requires commitment from the policyholders to continue paying premium to keep their policies in force.
At the same time, the policyholders would expect their agents to continue serving them for many years to come.
There is nothing wrong or illegal to say that we join insurance to make money. It is perfectly all right for someone to become insurance agent because he wants to create wealth.
But to stay longer in this business or to truly enjoy what we are doing, we need a better reason. We need a better reason to tell us why we should be in this business.
It is about serving the community. It is about making sure people are aware of the importance of insurance and financial planning. It is about making sure that funds are available in the event of emergency. It is about helping people to achieve their dreams and goals in life.
Once we are clear of our mission, we may see this business in different light. Mission is always before commission. _________________ I am an insuranc sales coach for almost 2 decades.
