Basic Life Approved/Supplemental Denied?

Hello i was wondering if you guys can answer a question for me. Is it possible for an insurance company to pay out the Basic Life Insurance claim, but deny the additional supplemental that was purchased?

I'm just asking to make sure, i've been dealing with a death claim for the last month or two, and according to the company the Basic Life insurance check should be here within a few days but the additional supplemental money is 'still under review' is that normal? i've never known of a company issuing you one check, then issuing another check later, or does that happen often?

If it was through an employer, the base coverage was probably guaranteed. The supplemental probably required additional underwriting and is within the two year contestability period, so they are investigating.

^TY. I made a post on here a few weeks ago. But she had been on the job 10 years, and she had a supplemental insurance that didn't required an EOI. So there shouldn't be a problem right?

Is it possible that the supplemental you speak of is accidental death benefit? This would explain the need to investigate. How did she die? AD&D coverage only pays when the insured dies in an accident, or from injuries sustained from an accident within a specified period of time.

This sort of coverage would not result in a death claim being paid if death resulted from a medical issues, e.g. cancer, heart failure, etc.

If she's been there 10 years, it's probably what BNTRS said. There would be no other reason to investigate given the circumstances you mentioned.

Thank you again fellas. But no it's not an A&D Plan. Just a regular basic life plus supplemental life, my caseworker, the one through her job, says it's takes awhile because it's a lot of money.

I'm thinking it might be because my mother updated her beneficaries during her stay in the hospital, and she died a few days after that, it might look 'suspicious' to them, but we weren't expecting her to pass. She just updated them just incase, but she just so happen to not survive surgery.

She was in the hospital cause she has been diagnosed with Heart Failure, when she was having trouble breathing we thought it was her asthma, but it was worse. She was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, and had to have a quadruple bypass a week later, and she didn't survive the surgery. So according to the death certificates the main cause of death was brain injury. because of congestive heart failure, that she had for the past 6 months. So her death wasn't an accident or would be complications of surgery be considered accidental? the death certificate says natural death though.
