My spouse passed away last year. I have a 5 year old son. Till when will I receive the Social security benefits? When will the blackout start?

The month prior to the month your child turns age 16 will be your last month of survivor's benefit payments. You will again be eligible for a survivor's benefit based on your spouse's work record when you turn age 60 (50 if disabled)--assuming you do not remarry,.
So you still have about 10-11 years of payments coming to you. Condolences for the loss of your companion.
