How do I find out if my father had a life insurance policy prior to his passing?

You can go through his personal papers to see if you can find a policy, you can go through bank records to see if any payments were being made to an insurance company for life insurance, or you can use the MIB Lost Policy Locator service.

Seems they have reduced the cost to just $35 if you submit your request online.
