Beneficiary dispute/SGLI/GA

My brother who was active military committed suicide in July. He was in the middle of divorcing his wife. She took his son (2yo) out of the house and was refusing visitation even tho they had a court order. My brother was miserable and at his wits end.

The divorce was near being finalized, but nonetheless was not finalized at the time of his death.

The months leading up to his death he changed his beneficiaries for his SGLI policy (which still pays out regardless of suicide) 3 times. Once to make my dad the only beneficiary (removing her completely), then a second time adding her back on as well as myself, and then a final time in May adding in my 2 other sisters. (Total of 5 beneficiaries w equal shares)

*i should also note that during this time he was admitted to the hospital 3 times for evaluations due to him saying he was suicidal. He was diagnosed with PTSD and schizophrenia

My sisters and I paid for the funeral (the POS wife only contributed $500 despite raising $2000 on a go fund me page specifically for the funeral)

We all met with the CAO (casualty assistance officer) to complete the death claim form. We were advised that it could take anywhere from 60-90 days to process.

Now that it is going on 4 months my sister contacted the casualty office and found out the wife is contesting the beneficiaries and is trying to collect the full amount of his policy. We just found out this was done by her on August 29. The only information that they have given us is that it is still under review and no monies have been paid to anyone.

What options if any do we have? Should we retain an attorney at this point or just wait for a decision? Is it likely that she would be able to get away with this? Please help

Hello south fire your looses Im kinda going through same thing the insurance company mine it's prudential still review for 30 day ergo is three legal beneficiary or beneficiaries they will pay affording to their findings or give the contesting party 30 to send in legal document to stop payment which mean you will be going to court good Luck
