In several threads, you have been pushing for a local agent. With today's technology, there is absolutely no reason that an agent needs to be local. If the preference is to meet face to face, fine, but there is no need and no advantage to it.

It may not be necessary, but it's still the way the majority of people prefer to obtain their life insurance according to LIMRA and other consumer studies. That's why I always recommend it. Sorry if that doesn't fit your business model and detracts from the number of people who do business with you..

It doesn't detract from people who do business with me. About half of my practice is local and half is national. I'm curious. Does Limra say that they prefer it or does Limra simply give the numbers?

I would bet that the vast majority of decent sized whole life insurance is done face to face. I would also bet that the % of people who buy term life insurance without meeting an agent face to face is increasing every year.

My guess for the reason that most is done face to face is that life insurance is still something that is sold much more than it is bought.

That may be partly true, but mostly people who intended to purchase comment that they feel life insurance is just too personal a product to do without meeting the agent face-to-face (kind of like buying a car -- you just don't go online and order one and have it shipped to your home). The statistics of life insurance, however, demonstrate that there is an overwhelming need for life insurance among the middle class, so "selling" as opposed to "buying" may just be two sides of the same coin. Those who tend to comment that "life insurance is sold, not bought" are generally commenting negatively about agents (who are perceived as conjuring up a need for life insurance where it does not exist). Personally, I think much less of that actually occurs today compared to 30 years ago (or more) when I was first licensed..

That being said, the latest edition of Best's Review indicates that when it comes to "marketing" (that is, reaching consumers initially, but not necessarily for finalizing the sale), life insurance companies are going to have to rethink conventional marketing tactics and make increased use of contemporary technology to reach consumers -- especially in the middle market and with cultural/ethnic minorities. Most insurers are putting greater effort into paperless applications that can be submitted from a clients home or office via a laptop, tablet, or smartphone (a technology review of Primerica gave a strong and highly favorable commendation for its online application process that can essentially underwrite up to $250,000 within about three minutes), which continues to indicate that they believe most insurance will still be closed in person, rather than online or long distance.

I think by doing this we can compare the insurance plan and it will help us a lot.

Universal Term Life Insurance is a novel and refreshing concept in the cash-value insurance contract. It is deemed that in comparison to other cash-value insurance policies, the universal term life insurance policy provides more transparency and flexibility.[link deleted per TOU]

There is nothing "novel" about Universal Life Insurance. The product has been sold to folks for nearly 40 years. While it may provide "flexibility" in terms of making premium payments, just ask the folks who have lost all the money they ever paid into their UL policies as premiums . . . because they were lied to by an agent who told them the policy would pay for itself . . . just how transparent the product was. That, too is part of the nearly 40 year history of this "novel" product.
