Can I buy a life insurance on my ex-wife?

She and I have been divorced almost 20 yrs but she seems to be on a crash course with fate. I'd like to have a policy in place where if the unthinkable eventually happens our son can benefit from it. I don't want her to know about it as it may give her an incentive to live.

Example: "oh no, we can't pay that policy benefit, did you not read the really small print, on the page that was encrypted? It clearly states that the policy only pays if the deceased actually dies between the hours of 2 am and 5 am...during the 5th week of February...on Thursday only"

Show me a policy provision that comes even remotely close to this, and I'll eat my agent's license.

Having someone take out life insurance on you without informing you is creepy and should be illegal in this day of vanishing spouses, especially women....it is not only creepy, it is suspicious...

And it IS unlawful in almost all states.

I am planning on canceling my life insurance policy

This only serves to show how little you know about life insurance. If you own the policy, why would you cancel it? That only benefits the insurance company. If you want to screw your ex-husband, all you have to do is change the beneficiary from him to one (or all) of your children -- unless you hate them as much as you do your ex.

i don't care what the "rules"are...the ones i make are for my marital contributions

When you get to court, be sure to tell the judge that you thought you were at Burger King -- so you can have everything your way.

What are you talking about "marital contributions" anyway. Is that your invented expression for "community property"?

Yes, ofcource you can buy a life insurance policy for your ex-wife,
but it's not sure that would you make your self a nominee for that insurance policy or not .

Did i say he was my ex??? Not hardly...

As for my policy...he took it out on me....he pays it...if i changed the beneficiary....which i would do if i thought he would keep paying it.....but i am not sure he would...

Even if it were for his children as well....i don't think he would...

Obviously, all of these issues are a result of one incidence of mistrust....once you have a seed of doubt about someones intentions, many things become suspect...

It is now up to the spouse in question to restore trust, if possible...

Look, i am a woman who did not contribute on a weekly basis with an income...i had some really good jobs that i had to give up here and there....

When i took an inheritance and invested it as a family unit, i expected at least my husband to be appreciative...i did not expect it to be moved like a gameboard piece until it was moved into an investment with only his name on it....

Even the most stupid person can see that is a clear mistake for a spouse to make against the other...especially the one who has way less in a retirement account...i mean way less...

I haven't decided how to really handle it....maybe i will just end up with absolutely nothing and have to go on welfare one day....

I am not the only person this has ever happened to....and yes...i am stupid for not knowing it happened until 4yrs later....very stupid

Your tale has more twists and hidden facets than a giant pretzel.

Rant on. I give up.
