Guest, may be you would take more care in clarifying things for us.

Are you inquiring whether your mother had a policy that would pay for the mortgage on her death?

If your mother took out a credit life policy with the mortgage company, then it would pay it off regardless of whether you are still living or not. A simple call to the mortgage company could probably clear this up.

However, if the insurance policy was separate from the mortgage...it probably is not specified to pay off the house. If it's not, then it will be paid to whomever is listed as the beneficiary.

The only way that the insurance company will pay you is if someone tells them that the insured has passed away and proves it. So basically you will have to find the company that your mother had life insurance with. There are many threads in this forum that are written about how to go about that. Could one of the regulators please supply this person with a link to take him to the page that could explain this.
In the meantime, you can check her bank account to see if she has made a payment recently or like Chris has mentioned, check with your mortgage company.
Thanks
