i think fiery one is right. but it's better to go through the insurance policy documents carefully to avoid further confusion.

KAY............do you have any brothers or sisters?..only child? Who is the Beneficiary on your mother's Life Insurance policy? YOU may be the next of kin, however..........your mother MAY have someone else as Beneficiary. Need to read her policy and see what it says.

You would certainly be the lineal descendant and in absence of her will would be the recipient of her estate.
