life insurance rejection appeal form letter?

by aaron3313 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 07:23 pm

i need to write an appeal letter because i applied for more life insurance through my company and i was rejected due to 'medical information given on my application.' do life insurance companies reject everyone who takes anti-depressants? if so, there is a huge amount of our population who must not have life insurance. i do not believe it is good practice to deny someone who is responsibly managing their medical needs. can anyone help with a form letter? i have 60 days to appeal.

After 2 years from the policy date, the carrier should not be able to challenge anything. Suicides included.

It all depends on how you explained your condition. A lot of denials are because the medical conditions are not explained thoroughly. How severe is your depression? Is it from a specific event like a death or a divorce or is it from a chemical imbalance? All of those questions play into their decision. If it was because of an event you should be fine, if it is because of a chemical imbalance then you probably won't win the appeal.

Well Jack aren't a lot of diseases due to imbalances in our systems that can be managed by medications? I think so...isn't potential heart disease stopped with high colestorol drugs? just a thought

I have had several underwriters tell me that they frown upon depression due to a chemical imbalance vs. depression from a life event due to the fact that many people with depression from a chemical imbalance would possibly cause someone to cease taking their medication. I agree with you that most diseases are from some type of chemical imbalance but the powers that be set the rules... I don't necessarily agree with everything the "underwriters" say but I'd imagine that most of what they do is based on years of data to back them up.

I hear dat!

I don't necessarily agree with everything

we just have to live with it and take the heat   that's in every job i'm sure....no i understand the difference in chemical depression verses 'situational' depression...and again we don't have to agree, but do have to live with it...hopefully our OP will be successful in his appeal...and the interesting thing re: the OP they are fine having him AND his depression at a lower limit...just not bumping up his coverage...

it makes sense... in a really crappy way, though. They think that when people with depression attempt to obtain additional insurance it is because they are possibly suicidal...

If that's so and the policy has a 2yr ''suicide waiting period'' hopefully the mis guided ins. will have plenty of time to find things to be thankful for, and 2 yrs is a lot of time to change your mind...

lmao... hahaha, yeah, if it were that easy... actually like I said earlier, a lot of it has to do with how it was disclosed originally. The underwriters go off of MIB, pharamceutical records, and MVR AND whatever the writing agent tells them so they see things in black and white only...
