Unlike owning an automobile, there is no legal requirement for you to have homeowner’s insurance. However, if you carry a mortgage on your home, your lender most likely will require you to. Do keep in mind though- owning a home is a substantial investment. Without insurance, you not only risk losing the money you put into the home, but among several other things, you risk having to pay for the clean-up and debris removal and the cost of having to temporarily live somewhere else while your house is being rebuilt.
