Me and my sister are arguing, she claims that homeowners insurance discriminates against pitbulls with higher fees and because of the more likelihood of an animal attack or property damage. Is this true ?

Not sure I would call it discrimination. Many insurance companies do not want to insure a home where a pit bull lives. The likelihood of a pit bull biting the neighbor versus a poodle for instance is quite a bit higher.

They are one of 7 breeds that most companies will not insure or charge an extra pemium for. What was the last fatal poodle attack you read about?

Actually it is discrimination, especially since pitbulls don't even rank in the top 20 for reported bites or attacks. A dalmatian and a golden retriever more than triple reported dog bites as co pared to pitbulls.

Odd, the Center for Disease control would beg to differ. Pit Bulls have been rated #1.
However, they have since stopped recording this info.
"Animal control departments in at least 23 U.S. states report that pit bulls are biting more than all other dog breeds. These states include: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin. The oft-quoted myth by pro-pit bull groups that pit bulls "do not bite more than other breeds" is categorically false. In addition to leading bite counts, the pit bull bite is also the most damaging, inflicting permanent and disfiguring injury."
The issue is only partly with with the dog. The bigger issue is the owner and why they have the dog.
Insurance companies also keep records of dog bite claims. There is a reason why they don't want the liability.

It's discrimination. That's what insurance companies do. They discriminate against prospects & applicants based on their selection criteria. But it is not UNFAIR discrimination.
As long as all pit bull owners have the same options, and are treated the same way, it is not unfair discrimination.
Some insurance companies, like State Farm, do not deny offering you home insurance coverage based on dog breed. I think Allstate may do this as well.
The exception, I believe, is Ohio, where state law considers pit bulls a dangerous weapon? Or something like that.
