Its for quite sometime that I have been hearing about suggestions to drop collision and comprehensive insurance when our cars get old. Now I'd like to know if my comprehensive coverage would be beneficial to me anymore !

Absolutely !
you'd definitely need to maintain this comprehensive coverage longer than your collision. Incase you had borrowed money for buying a car, then you'd need to maintain both till you paid off your loan.

Also many of us maintain it for several years, simply because its cheaper.

hi!
I think its time for you to get your vehicle evaluated in the market. Then only you may count on the assumed collision cost for the coming years and don't forget to consider the amount of deductible that you bear.
It would be absolutely foolish for you to carry any collision coverage, incase this amount (cost of collision+deductible) get bigger than the returns for getting it totaled !

my friend, in your case, I feel it would be wise to try out a comprehensive with a higher deductible. May be it could lower your premiums a bit !

I don't think it would be wise for you to drive without a comprehensive, since its one valuable policy that covers you from a number of perils like- fire, flood, robbery, hooliganism and so on.
