I'd say it's a bad idea to drive with suspended tags. If you get pulled by the cop; you would be ticketed and may get the car impounded as well for driving with suspended registration. Whether or not you have insurance has nothing to do with it. It's illegal to drive with suspended tags.

There are some none standard companies that will insure you...just get on line or contact an agent and get some quotes, whatever you do NEVER lie on an application...to do so could result in a future claim (for your vehicle and one you damaged), being denied..

good luck!

In addition to having a claim declined, it can also make it harder for you to get insurance in the future, and if offered the premiums may be inflated due to an increased moral risk.

That said, as Lori mentions, it's probably just a case of doing your research and playing the numbers. If you look around enough you will probably find a decent option - there are plenty of websites that can help you with insurance options and information on suspended tags.

Moral risk. You're not familiar with the term? It refers to an increased risk to the insurer due to possible dishonesty or increased likelihood of fraudulent or inappropriate behaviour.

No, I'm familiar with the term, just not that an insurer can raise a rate based on it.

Contact your local DMV, or states Dept of Ins. they would be the only ones that could answer this question.

You state you had a "lapse in Insurance". However....you ALSO say you've "had Insurance for several months now. I had that problem, at one time. Tags were suspended because I didn't have Insurance (just couldn't make the payment). As soon as I 'caught up' with my Insurance policy, and had proof that I Insurance again, I was able to re-instate my tags.
