I’m semi well versed in the general scope and definition of what an insurance underwriter does/performs as a matter of functions.

I've often seen, however, job descriptions with wording like: “strong aggressive sales and relationship building focus with marketing focus” or “focus on new accounts”.

My question is this: is an underwriter tasked with new biz dev/acquisition, on top of everything else? If so, is that role subject to bonuses and/or commissions for revenue generated?
Thank you for your insight!
