The insurance underwriting is becoming a popular career choice for many Smile A Bachelor's degree is a must for the underwriters. Insurance companies prefer students from mathematics, economics or finance background for the underwriter's jobs, because the job profile involves understanding of market along with computing ability.

Hey priyanka, welcome on board.

IMO to become an underwriter first you need to decide the stream of insurance for which you want to write the policies since your income will depend upon it.

Secondly, as Rupert has rightly mentioned, you need to earn expertise in mathematics and accountancy. The knowledge of the financial market is very important and for that you constantly have to update yourself with the market changes.

Thirdly, knowledge of computer application is essential as more and more companies are installing underwriting software for their underwriters.

Regards,
Juanita

I think you're on the right track, diploma in insurance studies will definitely help you in the long run as well. Some institutes and Universities offer underwriting courses which will help you to acquire the necessary skills required for the underwriter's job.

Wishing you all the luck!!
