Hi richtallent, welcome to ampminsure. Am I right to assume that you're looking to buy pet insurance? if not then pls direct me in the right direction.

However, I'm really curious to know why you want to buy a life plan for your pet. the purpose of life insurance is to cover the financial losses that the dependent family members may suffer at the event of the pre-matured death of the earning member of the family.

Will you suffer any financial loss from the early demise of your pet? Is your pet the source of income for you? You may need to throw some light upon your query for more definite response. Pls reply to this thread. I'm sure that its gonna be an interesting discussion :)

Thanks,
Carol

Life insurance for pet! not that I've heard of, but a standard pet insurance covers the expenses of medical care and the other associated medical costs of the pet.

The policy compensates the owner for the expenditures that he may incur during the treatment of the pet. It covers the expenditures of treatment, costs of visiting the vet, prescription drugs, costs of x-ray and surgeries when the pet become diseased. And in most cases it satisfies the needs of the pet owner. Hope it'll suffice you needs too.

Cheers!!

Rich, you can find out about it from your insurance agent. He may suggest you some names of the insurers who offer these special kind insurance polices. It must be a very niche market and may not be available in large quantity. And, I'm sure that its gonna cost you pretty dearly.

The pocket pinch for the available pet insurances may range between $10 and $40 a month. So, you can fairly imagine the cost of a life plan on the animal.

I've been asked this question before, and the best places I've found to get information about pet insurance are your veterarian, you can google it for your area, and strangely enough, there's an ad in one of our 38 yellow pages books.

On the other hand, I don't know of many producing agents that market pet insurance. As stated in the other posts, it a real niche market, doesn't pay enough (all anecdotal, of course), and does involve underwriting of the pet.

I do know that there are also health insurance policies available all over the place for pets, and my vet's insurance option allows you to add a minimal death benefit rider that will pay if your pet dies due to certain causes. Weird.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

hi richtallent, I must say that I have not heard of this pet insurance anywhere. I think you should ask your insurance agent whether this provision is allowed in your country or not...
