I don't know where this list came from but I suppose it depends on your critera for ''top ten'' he has written premium...for p&c company's ...I don't think this list is accruate AT ALL....as far as auto carriers, I believe it's
1/ state farm
2/ allstate
3/ progressive
4/ gieco
5/farmers
i think 3 and 4 keep going back and forth... _________________ **************************************

| Great now mine isn't on there at all. I got ANOTHER question...Lets say that a person was suing someone LIKE state farm for an accident that was 100% their drivers fault...a year or two down the road she finds really better rates and coverage will State Farm turn her down because she had sued them in the past for injuries she got from one of their drivers? |

Hi Lori ...this list is published by National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) based on filling received by April 2008.
I am not able to upload related document for this which has listing based on the line of business.
Please follow web link http://www.naic.org/research_home.htm
You can find it under Top 25 Property/Casualty Market Share. |

I'd not put some of those in the top 10 insurance companies .... good beats, but you can't dance to them.
Without having the criteria defined at all, there is no way to make a meaningful list.
Written premium (all lines or just certain ones), assets, customer service (then you have to define by who's standards), loss ratios, etc. |

#1: Illinois Mutual for blue collar Disability Income Insurance.
#1: Aviva for Fixed Indexed Annuities.
#1: Amica for Auto Insurance.
#1: State Farm for homeowner's insurance, unless you live in a Gulf Coast state.
#1: Largest worst insurance company AIG.
#1: Most expensive medical insurance, Assurant.
#1: Best life insurance company until AIG bought 'em, Old Line Life.
#1: Worst consumer product Variable Annuity.
#1: Allianz for Long Term Care Insurance.
#1: Insurance Agent, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ a legend in his own mind?
So there you have it, The "Top 10" IMHO. _________________ Gary Spicuzza, *SAFE

Yes tcope you are right …there can be number of ranking criteria …this is what I found published by NAIC based on written premium and market share for all line of business(P&C).
Lori you are correct on Auto insurance companies, NAIC has same ranking.
1/ state farm
2/ allstate
3/ progressive
4/ gieco - part of BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY GRP (Warren Buffet Company)
5/farmers - part of ZURICH INS GRP
Hi fireyone…..I think this will an unfair discrimination if insurance company turns down an application just because applicant has sued their insured for a fault. Underwriters are more concerned on unusual loss exposure while reviewing application and suing someone for his/her fault is very reasonable. |

| Thanks prashantjain, I was wondered how these things work. I have never heard of this Amica insurance company. I will have to keep them in mind when I look into switching. It isn't nationwides rates that have me switching (even though I found better ones). I just do not like my Agent..he wasn't all I thought he was. |

| Well..........I figure this. Even if the top 10 insurance companies are shown ( ...and I'm not saying they aren't good..) should the 'consumer' go with what's best for them? What 'works' for them? I have Nationwide, myself. Even if it's not the MOST popular, it 'works' for me. |

Or, we could go the other direction:
The Ten Worst Insurance Companies
To identify the worst insurance companies for consumers,
researchers at the American Association for Justice (AAJ)
undertook a comprehensive investigation of thousands of
court documents, SEC and FBI records, state insurance
department investigations and complaints, news accounts
from across the country, and the testimony and depositions
of former insurance agents and adjusters. Our final
list includes companies across a range of different insurance
fields, including homeowners and auto insurers,
health insurers, life insurers, and disability insurers.
The Ten Worst Insurance Companies
1. Allstate
2. Unum
3. AIG
4. State Farm
5. Conseco
6. WellPoint
7. Farmers
8. UnitedHealth
9. Torchmark
10. Liberty Mutual _________________ Please feel free to go to my website at www.markcolbert.com or, if you have a specific question, you can email me directly. I hope I can answer any questions you might have. If not, I can certainly find an answer right away. |
