we decided to take a tree down in our garden as it didn't seem too much work. Unfortunately it ended up falling and damageing our porch (quite badly). I have extended accidental building cover with Norwich union. Do you think i will have any problems making a claim. Thanks

I've not seen a policy with this.

Norwich Union is/was a British company. Maybe they have different wording in their policies.

I think the whole thing depends on what type of coverage you have with this company. If say it's meant to cover the "acts of God", then the tree-damage would only get covered if it would be natural.
So the best thing you may do at this point of time is to go through your policy papers and check the different claim provisions.

It sounds like your extended accidental coverage applies to other structure you have on the premises or it may provide you with additional benefits in the event of a covered loss. I may be wrong.

I agree with Steven be sure to check your policy conditions and exclusions. I do not believe that you will be covered for this because it was not an accident that you were cutting the tree down. It would be different if the wind caused the tree to fall.

Yes, it might apply to other structures on the OP's premises. But I didn't get what additional benefits you're pointing to. Please explain.

It is difficult to elaborate on what type of coverage this is since I am not familiar with Norwich.

Some companies offer a set amount of coverage for other premises (example: 10% of dwelling coverage) this endorsement may increase that coverage amount to 20%.
Extended accident coverage could also increase some of the supplemental coverage offered within the policy. Example: The standard policy could cover theft of money for only $200 but this endorsement could increase coverage for theft of money to $500. The base policy could offer Food Spoilage coverage at $500 but with the extended coverage it could provide provide spoilage coverage up to the personal property limit.

Homeowners policy have several endorsments or extended coverages that can be added that differ from company to company.

Once again it is difficult to determine what this particular coverage is with out view the policy jacket.
