two insurance carriers

If my husband and I both carry insurance from our employers, can we combine them both as a primary and secondary payors so that we would not have out of pocket expenses?

Did you mean to post this in the auto section? Policies will spell out how they react when then is another policy that applies. In most cases with auto insurance the policy that lists the vehicle will be primary.

No, you cannot. The only way you could coordinate the benefits as you suggested would be if you were BOTH insured under BOTH plans. If that were the case, there are provisions within most group contracts titled "Coordination of Benefits" provisions that govern which plan would be primary and which would be secondary.

that's what I meant, if we both carried insurance for ourselves and each other. Is that something that people do?

Hi InsTeacher, I hope it'll be better if you could explain this "coordination of benefits" thing a bit. I've never come across this topic in our forums before. An explanation of the said provisions might just clarify it a bit.
