What should I do, or do I have to do?

I had an accident (not my fault) in November. I listed my lienholder when I opened my policy in January. Oddly enough my insurance company dropped my lienholder for one week.(they were unable to contact them) This just happened to be the week of the accident. I received payment in my name only even after telling the girl that issued the check there was a lienholder. She made the draft out to me only. I had every intention of fixing the vehicle, but some other problems arose and I used the money. I had two vehicles both purchased at a buy-here-pay-here (first mistake) the non-wrecked vehicle lost the engine 800 miles away from home. I stopped payment on my car payment check because i had to rent a car.As a result they repo'd my other car because the payment was one day late. Now the lot has a wrecked vehicle and I no longer have money. Is it my responsibility to repay the amount. The insurance company relisted the lienholder two days after paying me.

I'm sorry "Guest" but I stand behind my post...You've changed your story now, what three times? You were out of a job, had hard times, YOU allowed this to ruin your credit, BUT you could afford to buy not one but TWO vehicles? Sorry, stuff just isn't adding up....

Want to hear a hard luck story bub...? I was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant, I had left my job and we moved back to our home town.. husband got laid off from his job (we were VERY young)...know how we survived? $85.00 a week unemployment, (to put that into prospective our apt rent was 195.00 a month) and that man trapped all winter long, every morning and every night he ran those traps...he also cut and sold wood, every day....I took in 'ironing' (yes, people used to do that), and baby sat all I could, even started my own, "run errands for old people" shirt tail business, and you know what? We kept our credit rating..NEVER late on a payment once. Course we didn't go out to eat, didn't buy new clothes, had a black and white t.v......fast forward, about five or six more years..husband had a good secure job, I was staying home and raising the kids (no income), we had purchased our first home, (early to mid-80's the 'other' recession, a GREAT interest rate was about 16%), no savings but we paid our bills. Then he breaks his jaw in a soft ball tournament...had to beg his employer to let him back to work...after six weeks of being off, and no pay (jaw wired completely shut for 12 weeks--man was he skinny  )...you think we couldn't pay our bills? No we couldn't pay them all off every month..we were really short but guess what? I called each and every one of them, (utilities included) explained what happened, and we would do all we could to catch up (and we did) within oh four or five months we were back on top of everything...did my credit get hurt? Not an ounce..in fact we have the highest credit score individuals can get...If you want more honey, I've been on this planet 50 years, I've got more hard luck stories than you can imagine...My point is EVERYONE has hit hard times, in fact if they haven't I kinda feel sorry for them..you never know what you're made of until life kicks you in the butt......it's how you handle them that show character, or lack there of.

As previously stated, you KNEW the right thing to do, but you CHOSE not to do the right thing....(several times)

Judge you too harshly did I? I don't think so....the world is full of people that struggle each and every day of their lives, and some NEVER get relief...but those that find a way to get thru it, count their blessings, and teach their children how people with character deal with hard times...

Are my 'opinions' and 'thoughts' old school? yeah, probably, but you just think it over a mite.

Yeah, but that was like a million dollars back then!

(oh, man... am gonna get it now)

I'd be less critical of the OP. I'm guessing the spouse might be working as well and need a separate vehicle or the like. I see no indication that rock bottom priced vehicle's were not bought. Perhaps the payments were only $150 or so.

I did not have it as bad but also fell on some bad times... I've been without a job and owned my own house at the time. The house was _very_ inexpensive so I was able to pay the bills with unemployment checks. This left me next to no money each week so I almost never left the house. In order to keep my sanity, each week I'd take $3 and go out and buy a combo meal at a fast food place. This got me out of the house and was a _real_ treat for me! It's something I looked forward to and was the _only_ thing I looked forward to. That may not seem like much to some people. Others might not even be able to comprehend how something like that could be important but I will never forget that feeling and it makes me thankful every day for even the little things I have. Perhaps it is the reason I read sites like slickdeals and buy little things I think are cool for a dollar or two. I see those things as being a big thing.

I posted this information in the hopes that it makes people see that they are not alone in their tough times. There are others that have it worse... there are others that have it better. It's about character and it's about doing your best to have a good day, every day. Accept responsibility but also know that people support you.

The key is to living on less than you make. I stopped living pay check to paycheck about 3 years ago. It was way to stressful. I got tired of robbing Peter to Paul every month. Although I have a full time career in claims, I have 3 or 4 part time claims management jobs at present.

See that's the whole thing...it's about living WITHIN your means...doing the BEST you can...taking RESPONSIBLITY for the mess you created, and getting thru life some times it's as simple as one foot in front of the other...there are ALWAYS tons of people that have it much much worse or harder....it (IMO) always comes back to character..

  "I'M" not even old enough to remember when that was GOOD money per week   don't get me wrong though, we were damn greatful for it...but took about 2 and 1/2 weeks to just pay the rent!

Oh Todd the 'treat' thing...we had a movie house that played older movies you could see for (I think it was) 1.50 or 2 bucks each..man oh man that was 'splurging'...
