|

Recently I have started thinking about a career change and I am considering operating an Assisted living Facility. I am tryingto find out how owners nad managers of these homes are paid. I was told that you could contract with DAD to provide services to seniors who live at your facility. Someone also told me about Community Base Alternatives. I am not sure where to locate the right information to my questions so if there is any one who has more knowlege about Starting an Assisted Livinig Faciliy and how compensation works please inform me.

Ok another toughy. I have had a few clients come in looking for Business GL insurance on this exact risk.
First of all...you do need to get the appropriate state license and be licensed for a certain amount of beds, people, rooms employees etc.
The GL insurance on these risks is NOT cheap! It is a risky business, here is my suggestion as that is not my business but insuring it is.
If I were to go about doing this, I think I would consider purchasing a franchise such as Alterra or Sunrise they are both franchised assisted living facilities. If you go this route the head quarters would be able to help you along with this process..Location, Licenses, advertising and would help you comply with the state laws.
As far as these facilities well private ones anyway they are usually compensated in two ways the first is through an insurance company, meaning if someone has purchased long term care insurance the insurance company would be paying the claim, or the families are paying for it directly out of pocket. I would rather collect from an insurance company as I would know that I am def getting paid.....
Does this help at all? |

the franchise idea suggested by nique1221 has a lot of merit - by going into a franchise you get a structure and format to work from where all of these avenues have been examined and covered off. This is not an areas you want to overlook something in afterall.
In addition they will probably have a prefered customer relationship with insurers as most or all of the franchises will have their cover with one provider, which could help reduce your premiums substantially. _________________ Get free insurance quotes or Purchase auto Insurance online in minutes. |

Procedures for starting Assisted Living Facility differ from state to state. These are the general step’s to be followed:
1. The first and the most vital step are licensing and certification. Most of the states follow a strict detailed procedure and it involves a lot of paperwork, interviews and inspections. You need to contact your State Department to know the specific requirements of your State.
2. You need to decide if you’ll work with a small group of people or a larger group. This will decide your business location.
3. You need to obtain Finances. That would depend if on your business scale.
4. Setting up your facility staff is of utmost importance keeping in mind the level of medical assistance that you need to provide. You also need to have assistance for day-to-day tasks.
5. You need to be open for business and attract customers. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

Carol . . .
You will need to start with your State Government to know and understand the legal, premises, and staffing requirements. Since you would probably be looking for persons with Medicaid coverage, you probably want to start there . . . to learn what a facility needs to do/have in order to be qualified to take on Medicaid beneficiaries.
There will be licensing issues, as well as potential zoning issues in your residential neighborhood.
Having said that, there are plenty of folks across the country offering such services without state/local approvals. But they are dealing with private paying clients, not Medicaid beneficiaries, so most of it is "under the table/radar" -- part of what's sometimes known as the "underground economy.
But it's probably not unreasonable to expect to collect $2500-$3500 or more per month to house and care for a single individual. From that, you will have to pay your hired help and pay for their Workers' Compensation insurance, your liability insurance, and your higher utility bills. Housing two or three persons is where it can become a more profitable venture. _________________ California-licensed Property & Casualty Broker-Agent and Life & Health Agent.
