See my response to the thread: what are the challenges and cost involve?
Depending on your state of licensing, you may or may not have a prelicensing education requirement. But EVERY state requires that you have one (or more) of their licenses. You will have to take one or more license exams in at least one state, preferably your state of residence.
You may be resident licensed in one state and have a non-resident license in each of the others. There is no "national" insurance license. At least not yet.
Depending on the requirements of a particular state, you may have to take an additional prelicensing course or two to become licensed. You will probably not have to take a test in any state other than your state of resident licensing, unless you choose to start by being licensed in another state.
Your path to resident licensing in California, for example, could be as little as 7-10 days, but figure at least a minimum of two weeks to a month or more. Some folks need even more time than that. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. CA Insurance Lic #0596197.
