David, you need to back up and tell us, what your question is...Did you abandon your vehicle? Did an insurance company total it? What?

Or was it repossessed?

If it was involved in a collision and the vehicle was "stripped" at the storage yard, you should file a police report for the theft. Most tow yards are on contract with the law enforcement agencies and don't need that kind of trouble.

If the vehicle was stolen and stripped, then it's still a matter for a police report.

In order to be reimbursed by your vehicle's comprehensive/other than collision coverage (if you have it) you'll have to show proof that it was factory-installed or was an aftermarket item. There will be limits to the amount of loss the insurer is liable for. Your homeowner's insurance could apply as excess coverage under certain circumstances for personal property losses not covered by your auto policy.
