how to get a "total loss" out of my accident

I got into an accident last week. There was an animal in the road and i ended up driving head on into a tree. my radiator is not bent along with my bumper the front outside bumper is cracked and my hood is all pushed up. I had an insurence claim expert from aaa come look at it today. He has told me they will pay up to almost 6,000 to repair my car and that it looks fixable. However you can not get the hood open at all. In this case i am hoping for a total loss... my car is worth about 6,000 and I just want to get a safer car now and be done with this one. what are the chances that i have more damage done than can be seen and that the samage will total over 5,00 almost 6,000?

the guy's way of not actually doing the job he's being paid to do

Well..I guess it sems that way. 'We' rely on adjusters to be telling 'us' the truth, about our vehicles. Ya know?

I understand that you'd feel more comfortable if you can stay a bit higher while driving. But, I'm not too sure about the safety devices that are installed in your car. Could you be a bit more specific regarding things?

the reason i want a new car is because i feel unsafe driving it.

Did you feel that way before the accident, too?

You are free to experience whatever emotions you choose to when it comes to your car. But it's not the insurance company's responsibility to allay your fears. Their only responsibility to you is to provide the coverages for which you and they have contracted.

I know what an insurance companys job is. I also did not say i think they should pay for a new car just that i'm hoping for one. I was simply asking what were my chances of it being over 5,000. If you are going to be rude about it, i would like it if you keep your coments off my post.

Then they were either defective or your collision occurred at some speed less than about 18 mph, in which case the damage to your vehicle, although severe, is probably not catastrophic. No one here can tell you how much the damage is -- your auto body mechanic can.

The $$ amount to repair the damage could be greater than the salvage limit in your state, and if true, would result in a total loss.

If not true, the insurer can offer you the money for the repairs (leaving it up to you to do that), pay for the repairs directly to the body shop, or make out a check in both your name and the name of the body shop (essentially forcing you to make the repairs).

There is still no justification for your desire to have a "safer" car at the expense of your insurance company. You're discussing apples and "just hoping" for an orange.

If you don't want to repair the vehicle, then you can settle for the amount of the repair the insurer will pay, use that money as part of the down payment on another car, and attempt to dispose of your otherwise repairable car in trade or by selling it to someone who will take it in its present state.

If it is not a total loss, there's nothing you can (lawfully) do to change that. Others have tried (called "enhancing the damage") and gone to prison for their efforts. Just 'google' the name "Joey Buttafuoco" and his little problem with the State of California a few years ago when he was caught showing undercover fraud investigators how to do just that.)

No one here is trying to be rude to you. You seem to want your insurance to do something other than what it is designed to do. Insurance is a "peace of mind" product, not something intended to make you "feel good,"
