we have water leak from floor slab. apparently a busted pipe. Will homeowner's insurance cover this?

Will usually only cover the resulting water damage... not the repairs to the pipe itself (that is wear and tear). So getting to the pipe and repairing it is probably not going to be covered. Rest is subject to your deductible.

The damages caused to the pipe are not any unforeseen risk. Such damages are inevitable if not maintained properly.
