I’m a college student with a new car. My problem is that my car insurance premium is very high. What can I do to lower it? Please suggest. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

Lower the limits and/or increase your deductible to the max allowed by your lien holder.
When buying a vehicle you should find out what the insurance costs in order to determine if the expense is within your budget. |

Shop around for lower rates. Some auto insurance companies charge you twice as much for the same coverage.
Make sure you get all the discounts you can get. Are you getting a good student discount? _________________ You can save $100s on car & home insurance, but you have to shop to find the company saving you money. I would recommend not lowering your coverage limits. Raising the deductibles will help lower your premium, but lowering your coverage limits will expose you to losses you may not be able to afford either.
You have learned a valuable/expensive lesson. As tcope has said, knowing the insurance cost in advance can help guide your car buying experience. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. CA Insurance Lic #0596197. Just study hard and try and get excellent grades in college. Good students get a good deal of student discounts by the insurer that can reduce your premiums considerably. This is because good students are thought to be more responsible and less reckless, thus reducing the risk level for the insurers. This might be a simple solution to your problem and also good for your academic career. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

Good student discount might reduce the premium by 10%. A good driving record can reduce the premium by up to 20%. _________________ CA-licensed P&C Broker-Agent and Life Agent. | You should always shop around while purchasing Link removed by moderator MaxHerr per TOU average car insurance rates by state[/url]. It will help you to compare the cost of the policy against the coverage. By doing so, you can choose a policy that offers adequate coverage at an affordable premium rate. |
