Is there a time limit in NY State on reporting a one car accident with no injuries or property damage involved. Only damage was to my truck when I fishtailed into a guardrail. No passengers, no other vehicle, just me and the guardrail and it suffered no damage.

The time limit per state statute is the Statute of Limitations under a contract. However, your policy probably states that an accident needs to be reported as soon as possible and coverage could be affected if the insurance company can show that they were harmed by the late report.

Exactly. Maybe the guardrail was previously damaged and you don't know that it was. Technically, by not reporting the accident, you have committed a hit-and-run offense. And maybe someone else comes along after you and does more damage to the guardrail (and doesn't report it either), but when you report the collision, your insurance could be stuck paying for repairs for which it has no liability.Think of it this way: If you had no insurance, what would YOU want to pay for? Damage you caused or damage someone else caused? The insurance company is your surrogate -- they pay what you would have to pay without their protection.
Now answer the question. Would you be harmed by having to pay out money for something not your responsibility?
