USAA vs. Geico Auto Insurance

I've two vehicles and I've insurance terms with USAA for both of them. Yesterday, just out of curiosity, I checked the website of Geico and was just shocked to find that their premium is almost half of what I pay at USAA for the same coverage! Now just want to know what is the shifting procedure and what people have to say about Geico's service and other things.

Thanks in advance!

You call USAA and ask to cancel your policy on xx/xx/xx. You call GEICO and as that the policy become active on xx/xx/xx.

You may want to make sure your limits are the same. You may also find that the GEICO policy is a little more restrictive then USAA. If you get a dividend from USAA at the end of the year you also want to consider that.

USAA is at the top of the JD Power customer satisfaction & claims satisfaction studies year after year. Geico is usually about average. But that has nothing to do with the price difference. For me, USAA auto insurance is less expensive than Geico, with the same coverage. If you keep shopping, you may find a company with a local agent offering a price similar or lower than Geico.

I think Geico & Progressive compete more on price than other companies, but they are not always the least expensive.

I broke all my attachments with USAA long before and moved with Geico. It is comparatively much cheaper in states like Alaska, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. However, still I call every six months to check with them and make sure they are still competitive and affordable.

I switched from USAA to Geico in the beginning of 2010. I asked the representative of USAA just to take a look at the quote that Geico was offering at that time and requested them to try to at least take down the price a little. However, they denied and I started paying $763 a year with Geico from $2000 with USAA. I didn’t file any claims since then until recently when my car was crushed by a drunk driver is TX. To my utter astonishment, they worked really fast to get everything paid for. They are true professionals and take steps with ethics.

I have nothing against USAA. Just shared my story!
