Recently my dog bit a friend of mine and he is being treated for the bite. He is out of work because of the treatment for the bite. I've filed a claim with my carrier. I am not sure how he gets compensated for his lost wages.

If your carrier addresses the loss (if there is coverage) they will speak to him about his loss wages and settle the claim.
