Car was stolen, two weeks later car is recovered with damage. Payment is being held up due to one repair place saying it's fixable and the other says it's a total. What can I do to expedite a decision ? Insurance company is dragging its feet.

Hello dinosaurdoctor! Welcome to Ampminsure Community! Smile

Did you report in police? Do you have the copy of the complaint? If you have the copy of the complaint, you need not worry.

Why did you reach out to two different repair agencies? Usually, it's the duty of the adjuster to determine if it's totaled or not. Even if they have a direct repair program, do they have arrangements with two agencies? Things are utterly confusing here.

Your insurance carrier can't drag its feet. You have options if they really do. But that's an issue that would arrive in future. For now, please let us know why two difference repair agencies are involved in this case?

This has nothing to do with the OP's question. It is only a requirement for filing the claim, and since a claim is in process, the "YES" answer is a given. But why you would equate that with "you need not worry" is a complete mystery.

Why not? Although a person is not required to obtain more than one repair estimate, there is nothing to prevent him from doing so. In this case, however, it produced the OP's dilemma, and he's asking for advice.

Usually? No . . . always. Two DRP shops? Imagine the possibilities. The only one who is utterly confused here is MangoQurious.

Either the insurer can't drag its feet or it can. Which one is it Mango? An issue that would "arrive in the future"? By FedEx or UPS? Are you happy living in your illiteracy?

Still more illiteracy, and completely unnecessary. The OP is free to obtain estimates from 100 different repair shops if he chooses.

You haven't once attempted to provide an answer to the OP's dilemma . . . because you are not an insurance person and don't have a clue.

Although we really don't know how long all of this has taken to this point, and the insurance company may not actually be "dragging its feet", all you need to do is start complaining to the adjuster's supervisor, and if that doesn't work, to the supervisor's supervisor. In the meantime, you may also file a complaint with your state's department of insurance concerning the failure to promptly resolve your claim once liability for the loss is determined.

That's the answer the OP was seeking.
