Would adding another car to my existing policy increase the rates on other cars? I’m not so much aware of this but my stepmother keeps on denying as according to her this will make her rate ‘GO UP’. Is this true? If yes, could anyone explain why?

I have no idea what this statement is supposed to mean.

Are you asking about adding another vehicle or another driver? There is a difference.

Adding a vehicle will not affect the "rate" -- $$ per $000 of protection -- per vehicle because each vehicle has its own rate for the coverage provided. Obviously, the more vehicles you insure, the higher your "premium" -- the total amount you pay the insurance company for your protection -- will increase.

On the other hand, adding another driver can increase the rate on all the vehicles insured if that driver has a poor driving history, because the insurance company figures that person will have "access" to each of the vehicles (doesn't matter if he/she never drives any of them).

So please clarify what you want to know. Are you asking about adding another vehicle or another driver?
