Hi All! I'm new here and I need everyone's advice.
I was recently got into an auto accident and now working with the claims adjuster to pay off the loan of my car. The adjuster gave me several blank paperworks to sign such as DMV transfer and reassignment form, vehicle license fee refund, and direct payment to lien holder. I'm not comfortable of signing blank documents, is it safe to sign these blank forms? Does anyone know if there's a website or documents link somewhere which explains why insurance companies gives blank documents and force their costumers to sign prior to paying off the car loan. I live in California and my insurance is Progressive.

I worked for a company where the title person used to send them out with some of the info not filled in. I don't recall the details but it had something to do with the owner of the vehicle's not completing the forms correctly. If that happened, they needed to be sent out all over again. What I don't remember is why the insurance company could not have completed them before hand.
You can certainly call the adjuster and ask.

You can also call the claims department for the insurance company and ask if this is the way they always do this. I don't think there's a problem with doing this as long as the adjuster is the insurance company's employee and not an independent contractor who might be "winging it".

Thanks for all the reply. I haven't signed all the documents yet, so I'll call the claims department tomorrow. I may have to call an attorney to explain this matter to me.
I'm just wondering if anyone has experience this with their insurance company by signing blank paperworks prior to paying off the lien holder and taking care of all the DMV paperworks.
