How can I go about finding what life insurance policies my friends parents had? My friends parents recently passed away and one of the siblings took alot of the paperwork that they had. She stole several items from the house, even before their death, and she is making comments she is still expecting more insurance checks. Is there any way to find out a list of all the policies in the parents names, and then see which ones my friend is aware of and which ones the other sibling may have cashed in falsely?

Hello Becky, One of the things that you can count on is that the insurance companies will not pay out any checks to individuals that are not listed as beneficiaries on the policies. So even though your friends sister/brother took the paperwork there really is nothing that they can do with it unless he or she is the named beneficiary on the policy. Unfortunately there is no way of chasing down a policy on someone unless you have a company name they had the policy with. You could go over the bank records of the parents or check with their Auto Insurance company(some also sell Life Insurance) or ask friends because friends normally inform other friends if they liked an agent and then recommend the agent.

If your friend still has access to any of mom and dad's old canceled checks...i'd be looking at any paid to any insurance carrier and contacting them...who is in charge of the estate, and who would the beneficarys have been? Is it possible they only named the one daughter? If she is making this statement, then why doesn't someone (in the family of course) just ask, 'hey was there life ins. on mom and dad and have you received any of it?"

This is a real issue many people are having. This new web site enables you to enter all of this important information in so that when you or a loved one dies- you know what life ins. they had along with alot of other info. You also can scan important docs in an on-line secure file cabinet that can be accessed when needed.
Really helps with financial planning or getting your parents household in order.

I can not find my mother's life insurance policy. She is currently in Hospice and Pallative care and could pass away at any time. How do I find out which insurance companies she may have insurance policies with? :( :( :(

Hello Jami2177,
I am sorry for your loss. If your dads family changes the beneficiary name while your dad was alive, it will be hard to attest unles you can prove that it was changed without your fathers concent. If you were the beneficiary of the policy and your father passed away, the only person getting a check is you. If they kept it and cashed it, you will have to hire an attorney and go after them for fraud.
Unfortunately there is no database that you can go to check what company he had life insurance with.
Best of luck.
Michael

Try knowing your own father has a will and you and your brother are NOT included in it.

And it's just now the subject of discussion? If you think something unlawful happened, your only recourse at this late date is probably a civil suit against those who might have had some involvement.

The burden of proof is entirely yours. Good luck with that.
