My 'Client's ( she is 41 years old) husband drives a Four-Wheeler WITHOUT a DL OR Insurance. Neither one of them where helmets. He can't get a DL because of DUI's. Anyway.........of course, I can't tell my 'Client' what to do, but, this is a REAL 'safety' issue for me ( for obvious reasons). I want my 'Client' to be safe. Anyone have any advice on what I can do? Should I inform the authorities, etc.?

Unless it's licensed for the street (and I doubt it) he doesn't need a license I don't think..is he driving it on the public roads? Does it have a license plate on it? Does your state require helmet? How would your safety ever come into play? I don't understand that part SD..you're not riding with them right? Wink

Why is this your issue? At some point a person's safety is their own concern. Sorry, but I'm a firm believer that the herd needs to thinned out every once in awhile. I know that sounds cruel but it is "nature" after all.

No, LORI......I'm NOT riding on it with him. A Safety Issue?..I mean my 'Client' has ridden on it and has fallen off of it a few times. She's really gotten 'beaten up' with alot of bruises, etc. Of course, I report this to my Supervisor, but, there's only so much I can do. My 'Client' KNOWS how here husband is....stays drunk alot, ignorant, etc.....and chooses to stay in that 'environment.

You mean in general it's a safety issue in your opinion..i thought (at first) you meant a safety issue for you personally.. Rolling Eyes

I think maybe the problem is..I don't understand exactly what it is you are supposed to do for your clients..(sorry...)...are your clients mentally handicapped..or indigent and you make calls to make sure they are physically ok? Please explain what it is you do..maybe i can get my head wrapped around this better...(sorry, i'm just not getting it.. Crying or Very sad )

I'm sorry.........I guess I'm not being clear. My 'Client' has MS. I help her bathe, fix her meals, etc. VERY nice women. But, her husband is REALLY controlling. Since she is 'of sound mind', she is able to make her OWN decisions. A few times, her husband wanted her to go for a ride on his FourWheeler. My 'Client' can't even walk without a walker, let a lone get on a FourWheeler..but, she manages to, JUST to please him. I'm concerned for HER safety...of course, however, she knows what can happen if she doesn't hang on tight, etc. A few times, she has fallen off the FourWheeler, while it was in motion. REALLY bruised herself pretty bad. One particular time, she fell off and split her forehead open ( not a SUPER big gash, however). She REFUSED to go to the Emeregency Room and I can't force her. She is in a REALLY bad relationship. More to THIS story, but, I think you get the point. Does this explain a bit more, LORI?

yes THANK YOU! Smile ok, so your job (in this particular case) is to provide some in home care..

Well telling the authoritys likely won't do much except get her more grief if he's in trouble..if they have been together a long time, more than likely nothing will change..I don't understand how in the world someone that cannot bathe themselves can get on the dag gum thing to begin with... Confused Do they have children, or another family member that helps care for her maybe that you could 'casually' mention this to?

Don't think you said, does he drive it on public roads? does it have a license plate?

She has 4 children from a previous marriage..however, they don't 'cpme around' BECAUSE of him. No...there is really no one to talk to about this. Yes..he drives it on public roads. I don't know if it has plates, or not. Also..I would like to add, I can't REALLY talk to any friends she may have, because of the HIPAA policy with my 'Client'. My agency is well aware of the situation, however, it's a 'catch 22'. 'We' have helped her out by getting her her own place to live, more hpurs to help her, etc. She just won't take the opportunity to do this. This 'case' is really frustrating to me.

well...you can't help people that don't want the help...i know it's frustrating...if it doesn't have plates and he drives it on the street then he can get in trouble...but honestly even if you report this to the authoritys simply by doing that you have violated client confidentiality, you would not be privy to this info were she not a client. Wink
