Lori, Horizon is from another continent and may be there situations aren't same as ours. Hence, it might be possible that this type of coverage isn't available there. However, as far I know, unemployment is pretty serious an issue in the developing countries.

I hope unemployment benefits spread to developing countries. They deserve it just as much as we do. It's a shame they don't share the same opportunities.
Thanks to everyone for the great information above! I was wondering about unemployment benefits too. This clears up a lot for me.

Actually, this type of coverage shouldn't reduce any coverage that you get through the state. To be sure of the unemployment insurance eligibility criteria, check with your state's dept of insurance before trusting what you read on this forum.

OR from someone with an agenda (ie selling private unemployment insurance)

Now, Lori... I wasn't pushing the unemploymentangel stuff in that post and you know it. :) I was simply giving out good sound advice for everyone that is looking into ANY insurance - check with your state insurance commission or dept of insurance. Don't believe me, Lori, or any website that might be posted... right?

Lori, I checked with some insurance agents working for reputed companies & they are also not sure about this unemployment insurance. Now I've to check with local authorities & find out if they know something about this.

Yes, you are absolutely right! I couldn't agree more...It appears in my state atleast your unemployment will be set off by a private policy, (sorry no link, I just made a call yesterday)....so certainly this is something that should be considered...Now, that being said, my husband does have a private policy that he has had for 30 years, but there is a huge difference..in the job he has (RR engineer)...they used to be subject to being 'fired' for a week, month, whatever for some violation (he never has) as we know state unemployment (which he doesn't qualify for anyway, he qualifies for RR unemployment) does not cover being fired for a week...so this policy he has pays regardless...i might also add there are other benefits as well, (ie small life policy, couple hundred if you're off sick etc)...and it's very cheap...but again, his situation is much different than the average workin' guy.

I have been out on short term disability and will be going pass the 6 month disability term. my job sent a letter to me and my doctor requesting if I can perform the essential functions of my position and due date to return to work. I feel as though they are trying to get rid of me and making sure I can not collect unemployment. If there are some limitations to doing my job can they let me go with me not be able to collect unemployment? if there are not limitations and they let me go can I collect Ui
