Dear confused_ind: Wow, fun times, huh? I feel badly for your situation and let me see if I can point you in the right direction...
I don't know what state you live in, and every state has it's own UI laws and rules. It's difficult for us to pinpoint any solution or answer for you in any case; unemployment divisions have a tendency to think on a "which way is the wind blowing today" mentality, and commonly confuse the daylights out of people. Especially when presented with an unusual situation. While I wouldn't consider your situation unusual, I wonder how often they run into this on a daily basis.
My suggestion would be to call the unemployment, politely explain your situation to whoever answer the phone, and ask to speak with someone who
"has been doing this for a really long time and really knows what she's talking about." Check out the state's website on this, there might be something there for you as well.
I don't know if anyone here will know how to specifically answer your post, although I hope I'm wrong and another poster will come in. Good luck!
