I have heard that you can receive certain compensation from the state if you're temporarily out-of-work. But I don't know the details about it. If I can only manage to work part time for last six months, do I qualify for the benefits?

Hi keith, you may get qualified for the unemployment insurance if you satisfy the conditions mention by tcope.
However, the story doesn't end their. In reality the qualifying conditions are so stringent that it has made it almost impossible for the low wage earners and the part-time workers to qualify for the UI benefits, when your employer is still paying the taxes towards the fund. If you are earing $8.00 or less, you're less likely to receive any benefit.
Almost, 32 state of USA do not recognize the part time workers for the unemployment benefits. You are really required to contact the nearest unemployment office to know more about it.
