AGAIN my posts are being deleted

Submitted by sdchargersfan on Mon, 02/02/2009 - 10:51

Well.........apparently I am having posts being deleted again. I don't know which MOD is doing it. However....I am getting no explanation to this action. LAKEMEN..maybe you can do something about this. Why should I post here if my advice/coments are being deleted? Does anyone have this much trouble???????!!!!!!!

Wow!! Your posts have got deleted  But I can see that you have around 139 posts on the board last month.

Posted: 02 Feb 2009 11:29 Post Subject: insurance

You're right. I DO have alot of posts. It's just RECENTLY ( the last few days, or so..) that my posts are being deleted. I've discussed this with one of the MODS..just haven't gotten an answer back yet. I posted on 3 or 4 different threads, last night. NONE of my posts are their anymore. I'm just trying to find out why. THIS problem has been going on the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Posted: 02 Feb 2009 01:48 Post Subject:

Hi Lakemen..

YES..it seems quite ridiculous to me..many times I don't find my posts - either they are elsewhere or removed by a mod. How do I justify myself being a senior member esp. when I've been associated with this community for so long?

I think if we are going to have "Moderators", they should abide by the Terms and Conditions of this community and not just use a personal judgment as to what posts stay and which ones go.

SD, I believe what is going on is post that are not relaying info that helps the original poster with their problem is the ones getting deleted. I do not think it is meant to be mean at all. I'm sorry you are having this problem but I imagine it costs the sight alot of money to pay for posts that are not giving helpful info.
If they are ones that say simply "I'm sorry" or does not help out then that is why they are deleting them. Just a guess here. Try keeping the posts on topic and on the informative side and you should be fine.

they are elsewhere

Roddrick what do you mean 'elsewhere'? Like in another thread maybe? Let me address that first if that's the case, (and I'm ONLY speaking for myself in this post, let's make that real clear )...If someone 'piggy backs' an old thread...with a new problem/question and someone has posted an answer to that 'new' problem...I will generally (if i catch it  ) split the thread...meaning I'll start a new thread with the 'new' problem, and any comments or posts to that particular 'new' problem will be moved along with that new post to the new thread...is that what you mean? If so it has zero effect on your post, count, cash anything...and that definately needs to be done..if a piggy back post comes to a thread, a new thread needs to be created...If that's not what you meant please do let me know...and I'll try again :)

I have also noticed that oftentimes when I submit a post, I get the "No Topics Exist" message and the post seems to go into cyberspace or somewhere.

Ok Guest which one are you? Who forgot to log in? Are you talking about getting an update email then when you click on the link you get that message? I get those too, and only assume that the post that generated the alert has been deleted...You'd be surprised how much out and out spam that I alone delete ...I don't know how much the other mods or admin. delete, but assume it's as much as or more...and I'm talking blatant spam, ie, 'i just found this site and they offer really good deals on ins.' posted on like 100 threads.. most of these posts you all never see because we've cleaned them out...but they (i think) still generate an email until they are deleted...I don't think anyone would argue with the fact this type of trash needs to be removed, (and yes, I always ask that the poster of such garbage be banned  )...Guest if this isn't what you meant by this message please let me know...and I'll try that one again too..

SD, honey you misundertood Tcope's post completely..

instead of sarcastic comments

..it wasn't a smart remark to you..it was a joke about the topic.

See my post above this one for the solution.

There was no post above, he was acting like his prior post (with the solution) had been deleted.. (pretty funny by the way Todd  ) I'll admit Todd's humor some times is too fast for me and I have to read it twice...   (you're such a smart boy Todd! )

I think if we are going to have "Moderators", they should abide by the Terms and Conditions of this community and not just use a personal judgment as to what posts stay and which ones go.

Guest, I don't know what Terms and Conditions have been violated by a mod...if there have been violations then the Lakemen need to know...Not sure either, what you mean by personal judgement :? Deleting, editing, and moving, a thread or post (or parts of) is all a personal judgement made by a moderator or administrator. ... I make a personal decision as a moderator that a post needs to be deleted, moved, or that I need to edit a post and pull out a web address, phone number etc....I'm not clear about your statement... please explain it more clearly and your reasoning behind it...so I can try and address it for you.

Ok, now on to the main topic...I had ask the Lakemen for some clarification on this because I was getting notes from some posters and SD is clearly very upset by this. I got a response this morning and this is my understanding.

Post that do not add content to the topic by way of getting or giving information, or assistance to the OP will be deleted...a few examples might be (btw, these are NOT to my knowledge any actual posts...just examples I'm making up)..."Oh that's sounds awful, I'm so sorry this happened, someone will be along to help soon", "I had a second counsin's wifes, step brother that had something kind of like this, but I can't remember what happened". "I'm not an expert but one will come along shortly" you get the idea..

Here's the deal, while these are benign at first glance (to me too!)...and in fact seem kind and welcoming (and I'm sure that is the true motive)...we do get paid PER post...I honestly forget this ALL the time...from a business perspective the owners and administrators cannot forget that they are paying for that! When you look at it that way it makes a lot of sense (to me anyway)...Also it does distract from the thread, and adds nothing to the content. Now, there is nothing wrong with expressing sympathy, and empathy FOLLOWED by good information...it is just not acceptable to expect to be paid for posts that LACK content..
From our Terms of Use:

Any forum post(s) that are considered to be aimless and intended to generate income only would not be entertained in our forums.

Another problem is rephasing prior posts...(example)...poster #2 says, ''OP, if you would supply the state you are in, we would be in a better postion to answer that question" then poster #4-8 and 9 say something like, ''We need the state to help you" or "what state do you live in" see the point? And really would you pay six people to say the same thing if it were coming from your own pocket?
Directly from the Terms of Use:

Forum posts that are irrelevant to a particular thread or bears repetitive information would not be considered for payments and may be removed by our moderators. Similarly, any comments made to such irrelevant posts would not be considered for payments and may be removed.

Now, that all being said, we all wander from time to time, but when there is a pattern or excessive amount of this, it has to be dealt with. I was a little ticked off and did not understand it fully myself, until recently...but it is perfectly clear to me, and makes perfect sense as well...It's a business decision. I've asked if there was a way to simply 'dock' the amount of that particular post and let the post remain, but there is (at this time anyway) no way for them to do this..

I sincerely hope that no one is offended by this, and once we all think about will realize it makes perfect sense. This is an insurance forum aimed at helping the consumer to better understand and appreciate this business. I believe that we ALL provide a valueable service to those that visit this site.

I welcome comments to this post, and hope you all will weigh in with any questions and/or concerns, as well as your opinions. I further hope that this helps clear up some misunderstandings. I think that communication is the key, and think perhaps this open discussion is a little over due. But it's here now...so comments?

Since its going on for quite sometime now, Sdchargersfan is complaining about her posts getting deleted, its time that we clear our stand in this regard. Lakemen, hope that you would soon be around to clarify it to the community. I’d only present my personal opinion on this issue.

I’ve been associated with this community for quite some times now and like the others have only the best interest of this site in mind. The objective of this site is to help out people who are in trouble. Yes, extending sympathy would definitely ease out one’s mind, but at the same time we are depriving that person of the information he has sought. If we can’t supply the required help to that individual we are earning one unsatisfied visitor/member. We need to keep the objective of this board in mind when replying to the threads.

It has been observed that few members are taking the opportunity and diluting the subject matter with their casual posts. Let me touch upon few points,

  • A casual post isn’t adding to the value of the discussion

  • Repetitive information is also not adding to it.

  • There is no harm in presenting a view but it should be backed with evidences.

The posters take time to go through the responses made by the members and casual posts would only add to their dissatisfaction. The members shouldn’t post with the motive to increase their number of posts but with the true intention to help.

Again, this is being done for the betterment of the community and not to single-out anyone. All the members of this site are equally valuable to us, but they should also abide by the Terms and Conditions set by the admin.

Hope to get your support in this regard.

Regards,
Juanita

People,... SD'... and others...

A deleted post is a badge of honor!

It means we got to them.....the mods.

A deleted post stuck in their crawl and violated something therefore they had to use their mod POWER to quash your literary masterpiece.

They do it to me ALL THE TIME!

Pfffffffffffffffffffttt!

Just remember you're in their house, they set the rules.

Our job is not to question mod authority, it's to see how far we can push them to the edge before they use the nuclear option and blow your post to Internet hell!

Oh Dave, that hurt my head! care to translate?

SD

I try to give them advice on what 'options' they can take. Apparently when I DO do this, the posts are getting deleted, too.

I don't think for one second that you are milicously posting...(with the intent to generate revenue)...Not sure exactly what you mean by giving them options and those posts are deleted...I would hazard a guess that those posts either did not add content, or repeated prior posts? Is that possible? If so then there is the reason...

When I spoke with the lakemen he said there had been complaints no only from members but from new OP's as well, re: the dilution of the threads or not getting the information they came here for...again this meant only to benefit the site as a whole...and I'm sure that is what everyone wants, and why we contribute, and spend our time here...to help those that need help (including ourselves)...

Oh Gary, always a pleasure..

Hi All,

There's not much left to clarify after Lori has shared her views over here and I truly thank everyone for holding on to their patience.

I have only one thing in mind..and there won't be a better opportunity to share it with you-

See, when a community grows it needs to gather every bit of its strength (over here its knowledge..)...then it needs to be nourished (I mean the struggle..)...after it covers a distance its the time to look back and measure if its heading in the right direction..the outcome is often unexpected...it would reveal much of the glory that's been earned out of prolonged sacrifices. At the same time it helps us count upon those who have contributed to this hard earned growth and that to what extent...who all have left and who all are still with us...we could thus get a fair idea of where we stand exactly as a 'community member' and what we've gained out of it!

Now, lets check out some of the comments from our members-

...Also it does distract from the thread, and adds nothing to the content.

Could not agree more on this. We as human beings would love to show respect and sympathy as we empathize with each other. But do we get paid for that in this harshly real world? NO, my dear friends. Its time we start analyzing our strength areas and work hand in hand to achieve 'success'.

On some of my posts, I amy not be "relaying 'DIRECT' information" to the OP, but, I try to give them advice on what 'options' they can take.

Many of the users had formulated advices recollecting information already presented by others in some way or the other - they got their posts deleted.

This is an insurance forum aimed at helping the consumer to better understand and appreciate this business.

Certainly! It is for the betterment of the community and to make our platform more credible that we should act professionally! A little bit of research from each one of us might help our visitors and add to our knowledge and benefits.

Let me clarify-

Any forum post(s) that are considered to be aimless and intended to generate income only would not be entertained in our forums.

Certain sympathetic posts have been made by our members in between their own meaningful and informative posts. Such posts have not been deleted.

Forum posts that are irrelevant to a particular thread or bears repetitive information would not be considered for payments and may be removed by our moderators. Similarly, any comments made to such irrelevant posts would not be considered for payments and may be removed.

If a forum comment or a moderation move hurts a member, it would be his responsibility to inform the administrator or a moderator regarding such moves through private messages. Posts bearing their complaints in that very thread would spoil the theme of the discussion and should be considered 'irrelevant'. Alternatively they could start a separate thread regarding their problem in the Pub.

Let me also inform you-

All moderators are now handling the forums as per the guidelines mentioned in our Terms of use. I'd request all our latest members to go through it and keep the great work going!

Regards,
Lakemen

Well Lori, I was hoping to make you spit out some coffee, but I guess I'll have to settle for "hurting your head". Just kidding, I hope you are well.

I read a lot more here than I post, and I understand the frustration that folks have with the "someone will be along shortly to help" posts. When you know who the ones are who regularly do it you just pass them by. Please don't forget that along with helping people this forum needs to be somewhat entertaining to keep the "helpers" coming back. You gain a lot more respect for the pros when you can see their personalities come through.

There have been a few original posts that I have seen that looked to me like the posters just trying to learn to communicate in english. I didn't think that they would likley be able to find their way back to the thread they had started. It wasn't my intent to be cruel to anyone, I just found it funny like those t-shirts that have sentences that make no sense. JMT

you got that right! and it's really frustrating at time...

 likely, I always hope that even if (any) op doesn't return that there is enough information for someone that 'reads' the threads that is in a similar position...IMO that happens WAY more than people posting or starting new threads with their own problems...

It wasn't my intent to be cruel to anyone, I just found it funny like those t-shirts that have sentences that make no sense. JMT

Investigator will be back.

I just wanted to add my two cents worth concerning the deletion of posts by moderators.

I have seen many, many "copy and paste" articles which are quite lengthy and very difficult to read.

I just don't think these long articles add anything to the conversation when a simple "link" to the material would accomplish the same thing.

Then, if someone had the time to read a 1,000 word article, it could be done at the member's (guest's) convenience.

I’d definitely like to see the post where I have claimed such

I don’t think any board allows a member to use abusive words against a Moderator/member, which seems to be a clear violation of the TOS of this board as well, but again some people never learn.

When does anyone have to have ANY kind of "evidence" for views/opinions? That's why they are called opionions...everyone has them.

Again, we are endowed with the responsibility to inform people, make them educated against the misconceptions that’re there about insurance and not to promote a gimmick. We definitely don’t want to get people into more trouble with the wrong information that they may get from the board. Therefore, when you are challenged about a piece of info try to establish it with facts. An update would definitely add to the knowledge of the community which is the sole purpose of it.

Its okay to present your opinion as long as its not on the financial forum and you’re not getting paid for posting it. You can always opine that the world is flat.

That's EXACTLY what it is, JUANITA......YOUR personal opinion. Do ya 'get it' yet??

'My personal opinion'-right! ..but its based on the terms and conditions mentioned in the board. Do you get it?? Lori and lakemen definitely have taken their time to explain it to you but to me it seems wasted.

I’ven’t replied to your earlier thread since it goes against the usual forum practice. And, I personally don’t like to be an attention grabber.

I’m sure SD that several other members too have faced the same issue with the terms in the TOS but none went ahead screaming about it in the forums. I think we are forgetting the actual purpose of this board and spending more time on trivial issues. I don’t think if you have been targeted on this board you could have 900 posts against your name. Think about it!

Juanita

Long Haired Country Boy

People say I'm no good
I'm crazy as a loon
'cause I get stoned in the morning,
I get drunk in the afternoon.
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade.
And I ain't got no money
but I damn sure got it made.
'Cause I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone.

Preacher man talking on TV,
puttin' down the rock and roll.
Wants me to send a donation
'cause he's worried about my soul.
He said, "Jesus walked on the water."
And I know that it's true.
But sometimes I think that preacher man
would like to do a little walking too.
But I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
you just leave this long haired country boy alone.

A poor girl wants to marry
a rich girl wants to flirt.
A rich man goes to college
a poor man goes to work.
A drunkard wants another drink of wine,
and a politician wants your vote.
I don't want much of nothing at all,
but I will take another toke.
'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
you just leave this long haired country boy alone.

Oh mamma I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law
Lawman has put an end to my running and I'm so far from my home
Oh mamma I can hear you a-crying you're so scared and all alone
Hangman is coming down from the gallows and I don't have very
long

The jig is up the news is out they've finally found me
The renegade who had it made retrieved for a bounty
Never more to go astray
This will be the end today of the wanted man

Oh mamma I've been years on the lam
And had a high price on my head
Lawman said get him dead or alive
Now it's for sure he'll see me dead
Dear mamma I can hear you crying
You're so scared and all alone
Hangman is coming down from the gallows
And I don't have very long

The jig is up, the news is out
They finally found me
The renegade who had it made
Retrieved for a bounty
Never more to go astray
The judge'll have revenge today
On the wanted man

Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law
Hangman is coming down from the gallows And I don't have very long

The jig is up, the news is out
They finally found me
The renegade who had it made

I do. I love music and really know a lot about it. My Dad says I was born with music in my head..can't do anything without it. Shower, drive, exercise, clean...it all goes better with music.
My kids both know every line of "devil went down to Georgia"...I actually think he got my olders sons soul..lol
