Hello,
My friend was denied short term disability insurance because he a deckhand/engineer. And how dangerous the job is. Does anyone have short term disability they have bought outside of their job? Like aflec and Combined?or?

Regardless, of your friend's profession or job, if he resides in a state where short term disability insurance has been provisioned by the state government, then he or his employer may choose to pay for that.
Your friend can buy a private disability insurance on his own too.
AFLAC is the leading supplementary health insurance provider in the U.S and does provide short-term disability coverage. In this case, you need to find out with the company, whether or not you can club multiple coverage with AFLAC.
