Hi Super Agent, temporary car insurance policy is for people who would rent vehicles. The temporary coverage may last for one day to one month. But, yeah, if you rent vehicles on regular intervals you better get the non-owners policy. It’s much cost effective and offer coverage for longer period.

I didn't think there was any such thing as temporary car insurance . Usually when you DO get car Insurance, you have to sign up for a 6 month premium or make monthly paymrnts ( could be explaining it wrong). Obviously..if you DON'T have Insurance, you shouldn't be driving at all.

I think its actually out of state thing. May be the poster isn't from this part of the world.

OP, is talking to the agent an option to you? May be you should take-up the matter with him.

we can use this insurance for new drivers.

Hey Sunil, can you throw some light on how the new drivers can benefit from the temporary auto policies, especially when you have mentioned those are expensive?

sunil87020,

The period of coverage lasts generally from one to 28 days and is aimed at people who are either not regular drivers or have temporary additional vehicles.

If someone uses a temporary vehicle apart from a regular one, would it be cheaper and easier for him to obtain a temporary car insurance coverage from his existing carrier?

How would you have a temporary, additional car? You either have an additional car, or you don't. I CAN understand the 'non-regular' drivers getting it, however ( but, I've never heard of Temp Insurance).

Why is it advisable to purchase temporary auto insurance?

You don’t want to be stuck with the bill if you have an accident when driving off the showroom floor.
A temporary driver may not be covered on your existing policy. So if your niece is driving you a thousand miles to your cabin in the mountains, then you may want a temporary car insurance policy.
Are you particularly concerned your car my get destroyed in a hurricane this season? Maybe a temporary insurance policy would do you good. Just make sure the coverage is adequate to help appease your fears.
Many temporary auto insurance policies are drafted for weeks rather than for a longer period, like six months which is the standard term for a normal policy. For the convenience, often times the premium rate for a temporary insurance policy is far greater than the pro-rated annual policy. The temporary auto insurance policy can provide liability coverage or full coverage, depending on the insurer’s needs. Temporary insurance can be the right answer for your insurance needs.
