Hi! I'm an Aflac policy holder and I want to quit. Is that an easy thing to do? Can somebody show me how to? Thanks! :)

Hi insurance Maze,

When both tryingtohelp and good natured are voting for Aflac..then I'd love to know your reason for saying -

First of all, I congratulate you for deciding to "quit AFLAC". In my opinion, the only real thing this particular company offers is a duck.

I'm even more amazed to see tryingtohelp claiming Aflac to be a prompt payer that even settles inaccurate claims within 7 days. Anything that you may have to say regarding this one?
In case you have any bad experience with Aflac, please let us know about it too!

Simon It really was fairly easy to quit..just called and cancelled it. When they asked me why I had explained that my husband had a job that provided us with all the coverage we needed. I did however go to the bank and sign some slip to keep them from deducting any more money. I was afraid if I didn't they may continue to do so. I remember also they tried to convince me in every way how important it was to continue coverage. I really don't let them go on to long. Mt theory is it's my money and I wasn;t wasting time trying to convince me where I needed to spend it.

We had not trouble getting rid of the insurance, you just quit. It was that simple.

Hi Hannah:

Dropping an insurance policy is generally an easy thing to do: stop paying the premiums!

However, an AFLAC policy is always purchased thru an employer/employee payroll deduction method. So it can be a bit more complicated.

If you are using after-tax dollars to purchase your plan you can instruct your employer to STOP withholding premiums immediately.

If you are paying premiums thru a Section 25 plan, a device that allows you to use PRE-TAX dollars to pay premiums, then you are committed to pay premiums until the anniversary of the 125 Plan. There are certain exceptions to this rule and you should speak with the HR person at your employer's company.

I did not think about that part of it, it did come out through payroll deduction. You will have to contact your payroll department, it really should not be hard to do.

Across the board I have read that stop paying premium on a policy isn't a great way to cancel/drop the coverage. It may take a toll on your insurability.

Aren't you required to call and inform your insurer about canceling the policy? And, undergo the proper canceling process?

I agree there. I have heard that especially in the car insurance...if you continually drop coverage then you will pay higher premiums down the line. It may be best to call the office and ask to be let out of the policy.

I would think the correct thing to do is to contact your payroll department, they usually have a good relationship with these companies so they will communicate with them of your intentions. If you have had one on one conversations with the agent then it would be a courtesy to let them know that you are cancelling the policy, they would also be able to help you with the cancellation paperwork and any refund you would have coming on their end.

Well, Aflac insurance policies aren't available online. Therefore, you are required to meet the Aflac agent personally in order to know more about the policy details.

Keep in mind that Aflac health insurance policies are only supplementary policies and not the mainstream health plans. this additional coverage can be used to plug the holes in the health plan.
