Well let me explain what condo insurance is. It is something that you are insuring your belongings and the structural parts of the building that you own e.g. the kitchen cabinet .
As there is a ownership relationship between the homeowner and condo corporation these two are same except the conditions attached to home owners insurance.
For single family home owners insurance the coverages are from the damages to the property and /or the structure like-
• fire or lightening
• falling object
• explosion
• riot
• damage caused by aircraft
• windstorm or hail
• vandalism or malicious mischief home insurance etc.

Can insurance companies insuring exterior/common areas limit the number of rentals in a development?

Condo insurance and SF insurance is different as most of the time the Condo insurance is just insuring your property inside the home and some of the building costs, usually from the Studs in.

There is usually a condo association that will also have coverage on the buildings that will cover from the studs out. The by-laws in the condo community really need to be read so that you know what kind of coverage you need and what you are responsible for.
