My husband was fired from work on February 25 2009 and applied for UI. Because it was not a lay-off, he will have an interview with EDD to determine his eligibility. He was looking for work for 2 weeks and filled out a continuous claim form for UI benefits. However, in November 2008 he was diagnosed with cancer and March 16 2009 he had his surgery (3 weeks after he applied to UI). He plans to claim SDI. What is the best strategy? Should he cancel his UI ( he has not received any benefits yet)? Or can he switch from UI to SDI?

Hi, I just came across an article which stated that there's some kinda coverage available for even trees, plants or shrubs. They haven't been through the details of such policies though. Any idea!

What are situations that will cause insurance carriers to waive their timely filing requirements? I work for a Dr. who thinks it is an excuse if I tell him the filing window is closed on a claim --he says under ERISA there is no time limit. I have researched extensively and see it differently/ Can anyone out there tell me if I am missing something?? Thanks!

DONT MEAN TO KEEP BRING THIS COMPANY BACK TO TOPIC...I'M WONDERING IF THEY JUST DID A HUGE INTERVIEW PROCESS AND HIRED A BUTT LOAD OF NEW AGENTS. MYSELF AND MY CLOSE FRIEND BOTH INTERVIEWED ON DIFFERENT DAYS AND BOTH GOT THE JOB, WE DID NOT INDICATE THAT WE KNEW ONE ANOTHER??? I'M REALLY CONCERNED. (see below). In speaking with a client this afternoon, he states he was contacted via telephone by a company (could not remember the name) offering him a private unemployment insurance policy. When I questioned him further, he offered the following summary of his understanding of the program:

- He would be charged a monthly premium

- There would be no waiting periods and coverage would be in effect immediately

- If he became unemployed, the insurance policy would pay out his FULL income for up to 24 months.
