i have been in construction all my life and am considering becoming a licensed insurance adjuster. i know a lot of people that do it as part time during times of natural disaster. they seem to make a lot of money when they are gone. i have checked into courses to help get my license but am curious still on what i do after i get it. if i was to take off to a recent hurricane do i have to be employed with one insurance company or would several companies use one person like a sub contractor. thanks for your help

Insurance shopping experiences?

Hello, I'm doing an informal study to determine HOW and WHY people buy or shop for their auto & homeowners and life insurance. In other words, what makes someone choose an agent, a website such as Progressive or Matrix Direct, an aggregator or even a retailer such as Kroger's or Sam's Club?
To me, it seems that the online choice models offer numerous carriers so customers will get a good price. However, people may be hesitant to give out their personal info because of the risk of spam, phone calls and emails.

I work for Geico Insurance as a claims adjuster. Our company is running a GEICO referral program for it's employees to see who can get the most Insurance Rate Quote Referrals. We get various prizes for the number of referrals that we give. All the rate quotes are free and take about 5 minutes to get. If you call in and get a quote, you don't have to sign up for a policy. The only requirement for the contest is that I refer someone to a rate quote.

Insurance Companies compete to cover you

Insurance being so costly makes it inevitable for consumers to shop for the different coverage quotes available in the market. It is thus natural for the insurance companies to compete with each other at selling the same coverage with different policy designs, limitations & price-tags.
