Cenforce, which contains sildenafil citrate, is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis. While effective, it can sometimes cause side effects like flushing (redness or warmth in the face and neck) and headache—often occurring at the same time.
Both symptoms are linked to how sildenafil works in the body. CENFORCE inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which increases levels of nitric oxide. This causes blood vessels to relax and widen, improving blood flow to the penis. However, this vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) isn’t limited to the genital area—it also affects blood vessels in other parts of the body.
Flushing happens because blood vessels near the skin surface dilate, causing increased blood flow and a feeling of warmth or redness, especially in the face and upper chest. Headaches occur due to dilation of blood vessels in the brain, which can lead to pressure or throbbing pain.
These side effects are usually mild and temporary, subsiding as the medication wears off. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol may help reduce their intensity. If symptoms persist or become severe, it's important to consult a healthcare provider.
