Working in Surplus Lines

if you're working with retail agents, do you need to have an insurance license? I was checking the state guidelines, but they're unclear. I was always told that it's a no, but now I"m not so sure.

What is sales in P&C insurance?

I work in surplus lines insurance - first processed policies and now end up underwriting. I'm still new to the insurance industry. I just got my P & C license a couple months ago. I went to a job interview for an assistant broker and the interviewer was looking for a sales person. But I have a hard time understanding what that means? What is "sales" in insurance? I'm very knowledgable in the products and markets and very responsive to retail agents who ask questions, but I don't consider myself a sales person. So what does the term mean? Am I doing sales without even knowing it?

annuities and pensions

pensions are just annuities that are partially funded by an employer correct?

Are pensions and annuities grouped together? Are they listed as life insurance?

I notice that some research lists annuities as life insurance and others list them seperately.

I read on one article "pension annuities" so...that's just a "pension" correct?

Damn this terminoligy is killing me

Ok I finally got my health and life and P&C license, now the problem is getting appointed to the markets, health and life is a lot easier than P & C they will only let me sale commercial.... What should I do to get the individual markets other than sell a ton of commercial first? Is there any other way? Other than working as a captive agent. :?: :!: :?:

Hiring Inexperienced Insurance Agents!

I have seen a trend in my area that has left me undecided, and I'm hoping some of our members can provide some insight. In the last few weeks, there has been an influx of advertisements on television and in the newspaper recruiting potential insurance agents. The ads are looking for individuals with or WITHOUT insurance licenses. They claim their successful agents come from all different backgrounds and that insurance experience is not necessary. One of the advertisements even states you can be selling in just a couple short weeks.

Continuing Education Questions

I've put it off long enough, and I simply have to start looking at obtaining my continuing education hours. I have looked at a lot of the online CE classes, but it seems that most of them require an examination at a Thompson Prometric Testing Center. If I'm going to have to take the time to do 4-5 exams to get enough CE units, then shouldn't I just go to a class? If I go to a class, do I have to take the same types of examinations?

The difference between Financial advisors and insurance agents are that advisors give advice on broader financial products including commercial banking products, pure investment products as well as insurance products. Agents only advice on insurance related products...correct?
