Hi, I am wondering if insurance company will try to get temporary housing reimbursement from contractors who cause water damage to their client, resulting in the client's having to rent an apartment while things get sorted out?

Selling a home after receiving insurance claim money

My elderly mother's home was damaged due to a pipe bursting inside her home. She got the pipe fixed, paid for out of pocket. The insurance company gave her the funds to repair the damage that was caused by the pipe bursting. The people that were giving her the estimates during the process came back and offered to purchase her home and told her that they did not want her to have the repairs made because they would go in a different direction rather than having the same layout rebuilt.

Foundation Question

We have a detached garage that was built in the early 90s on a slight hill with a block and fill type of foundation. My husband lifts weights and dropped the barbell and cracked the slab under the weight. Over time this crack has gotten worse and the blocks have started to shift creating more of a problem. We did have it looked at by a contractor and learned that the slab was not poured very thick and the blocks were not filled with concrete or rebar which made it more susceptible to damaage.

What Does a Home Warranty Give Homeowners?

The concept of home warranty plans might perplex some homeowners. They might wonder, “Do people really need home warranty plans? After all, homeowner’s insurance should cover everything that warranties would, right?”
Actually, no—home insurance covers household systems and appliances in the event of a fire, flood or other disaster. However, most plans do not offer coverage for general wear and tear.

Statefarm BroadForm or AMFAM GoldStar HO5

Hi, I am in the process of getting a home insurance. I got quotes from AMFAM - for a H05 Gold Elite policy and one from State Farm. With AMFAM the inital rates are $200 less than state farm - but they have a welcome discount now and I guess I would lose it next year and the rates would go high. State farm says their price would not change much year after year like AMFAM. Also Statefarm agent says its a BroadForm Insurance and covers every stupid thing. Not sure which way to go. From a policy perspective is an AMFAM H05 better than the State Farm BroadForm . or is State Farm better?

Profitability of High Deductible Homeowners Insurance

Do insurance companies generally make more money on high vs. low deductible homeowners policies? Or do they price it fairly to cover claims plus expenses evenly for both? Or, similarly, do they pay out the same percentage of policy income on low vs. high-deductible policies? Obviously this question is across large pools of insureds, not on an individual basis.

Thanks!

The Trampoline Conundrum

I purchased a trampoline a year ago and my 5 year old loves it. My Homeowners insurance just notified me that it must be removed or face policy termination. I know they are liabilities but I really dont care and want a way around this. Perhaps a homeowners insurance company that will allow it? Thanks.

Homeowner vs friend

at first a friends ask me to help him fix little things in his illegal extended part of the house. after I started the work he ask me to help him break down that part of the extension to rebuild a how new extension with permit. I refused to do it because it became to big. I begged and bagged because it cost to much for them to hire a contractor. So I agree to help him but do it myself, I help them find contract to do most of the work. I had to take time off work to help him. I will do the finished work. Now that its down, he decided he doesn't want to back me up to continue his project.

Is this Insurance Fraud or illegal in any way?

I purchased my house Apr 2016 For Sale By Owner. It is still in the Property Owners name and the Owner has insurance on the property currently. 6 months ago they filed a insurance claim on the house for hail damage (and is leaking when raining) but has no intention of making the repairs to the house. When I asked him about the roof and the insurance claim he told me I bought the house "as is".
