Will my insurance cover wind damage to roof?

We recently have had our roof damaged by wind. The independent adjuster told my husband to fix it himself. The Allstate adjuster said there were 31 shingles that needed to be replaced, and would not pay for such wind damage to roof at all. Why should we settle for a spotted roof, when my friend has State Farm and got a new roof on her house, garage and pool house. She said there were only 10-15 shingles damaged on her house and her garage and pool house was not damaged at all. The adjuster told her he wanted everything to match. Do I need to call the State Dept. of Insurance, get a public adjuster, send nasty letters to the home office or what. Because if I do not get a new roof i will get my satisfaction in another way by slamming Allstate on message boards, chat rooms and if i have to have a spotted roof i will get 31 blue shingles and put a huge sign in my front yard stating THIS HOME IS INSURED WITH ALLSTATE. Thanks for any response.

Sounds like a couple of these people work for Allstate. Patching in shingles on an unrepairable roof is building a time bomb waiting for more of the roof to blow off so that you can create another claim and another deductable and hoping they won't insure you by then. If even 1 tab is blown off it is almost definite there is much more wind damage

If there is a damage and you cannot fix it at your own, then do not take any risk and call a specialist to fix the problem. This will save your time and risk both. If you have any insurance for your home, then this damage will be reimbursed by the insurance company.

If the damages were caused by a third party (not you or a member of your household, you are entitled to the "reasonable cost" to repair or replace your damaged property.

The insurance company that says "we don't replace old with new" is full of crap. But you cannot sue the insurance company, because they did not cause your damages. You can sue the party who knocked down your fence for the full cost of repair/replacement.

The court may discount that some for "depreciation" but maybe not. You just need to go into court with two or three contractor estimates of the cost to replace what was damaged. Ideally, the one you chose is in the middle or lower.

The law entitles you to be restored to the condition you were in at the moment prior to the loss. If you had 50 feet of 6 foot high wood fence, and now you only have 5 feet of those 50 feet, you are entitled to the restoration of the other 45 feet. If that cannot be done without replacing the remaining 5 feet, you are entitled to the cost of the entire 50 feet (minus any depreciation perhaps that the law permits).

You don't have to accept the insurance company's offer, and can sue the at fault party instead. Taking the insurance company money may close the matter (a full release of claim) and prevent you from suing the other party.

If you have the insurance company check in hand, and have not cashed it, you can send it back with a letter disagreeing with the payment amount, and making a demand for the full value of the repairs. Send it CERTIFIED MAIL RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED, and be sure to keep a copy of the letter, the check, and the proof of delivery for evidence in court.

Alstate seems to be turning down people with thier claims. Half of the roofs on my block have been replaced because of storm damage. The like to say that because the shingles are not creased there isn't wind damage. Before the crease the seal needs to be broken. That they admit. The storm report they gave in there main report was for cook county. I live in dugage. The storm report for dupage talks about the F1 tornado that touched down less than a mile from my house. They frauduelently left that out. Alstate doen't pay and is a bad insurance company.

Only if you fail to question their determination of your claim. Don't drop the matter. Complain to your state Dept of Insurance. Sue the insurance company for breach of contract. You have choices.

Had strong winds that caused roof to leak and caused damage to carpet and furniture etc. Insurance Co. said old roof and not wind damage and refuses to pay. How can you prove wind damage? Is there a certain wind miles per hour that is acceptable? Please help.

I THINK THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY SHOULD NOT ASK YOU TO MAKE YOUR HOUSE LOOK LIKE A SHACK AND NOT MATCH ALL SHINGLES. ILL BET A MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE GET A FULL NEW ROOF AND NOT A PATCH JOB. WE ARE NOT PAYING SMALL PREMIUMS FOR INSURANCE SO WHY ARE WE GETTING SHAFTED

My neighbors next door have their roof replaced after the last storm paid by their insurance company. Allstate and the roof company I contacted disagree with what needs to be done.
Allstate will only cover the repair which THEY estimate is under our deductible.
