Will my insurance cover wind damage to roof?

We recently have had our roof damaged by wind. The independent adjuster told my husband to fix it himself. The Allstate adjuster said there were 31 shingles that needed to be replaced, and would not pay for such wind damage to roof at all. Why should we settle for a spotted roof, when my friend has State Farm and got a new roof on her house, garage and pool house. She said there were only 10-15 shingles damaged on her house and her garage and pool house was not damaged at all. The adjuster told her he wanted everything to match. Do I need to call the State Dept. of Insurance, get a public adjuster, send nasty letters to the home office or what. Because if I do not get a new roof i will get my satisfaction in another way by slamming Allstate on message boards, chat rooms and if i have to have a spotted roof i will get 31 blue shingles and put a huge sign in my front yard stating THIS HOME IS INSURED WITH ALLSTATE. Thanks for any response.

Claims roof is faulty even though they insured the house after inspecting the total outside per the new agent that sold me Farmers Insurance policies.

Agents have no authority to tell you what is or is not covered when a claim occurs. They can only tell you what the policy is supposed to cover or not.

If the insurance company performed an inspection of the property, you could have a stronger case, based on a theory of reliance.

With property and casualty insurance, however, it is sometimes easier to force an insurance company to pay a claim based on the unauthorized words of the agent. It's called exercising "apparent authority" and it gets agents and insurers in trouble all the time. A skillful and knowledgeable insurance attorney might be able to help you.

The home is much more then the roof. Would them not-insuring the home afterward make things right? Insuring a home is not a guarantee that something is not wrong with it. Do you have anything to document that the roof was not faulty and this is why it leaked? If it was not built correctly then you may have a claim against the party that installed the roof.

The policy provider is only responsible for compensation for your roof damage due to wind, it protects only your home. Read your policy terms and conditions carefully again to make sure.

WHEN IT COMES TO PAYING THEY WILL DENY EVERY TIME

If that were actually true, insurance companies would very quickly be out of business. This sounds like a complaint from someone who had a claim denied, but is not telling the whole story. Why don't you post the actual details instead of making idle accusations?

i have Allstate and 3 houses in the DFW area that got some hail damage. I called a roofing company for estimates and he said he recommends requesting a full replacement for each of them. He said i had a 50/50 chance of them approving 1 house initially and the would deny the other 2 with initial estimate and when they do i was supposed to ask for a second opinion from a different adjuster ( it will always be the first adjusters supervisor, that is how he evaluates him) and i told them i wanted to be present up on the roof so they could educate me on roofing policies. They have no choice. when the next adjuster arrived for a scheduled appointment , two people from the roof company had arrived 30 minutes before to check out the roof again, he said he was going to take a quick look, after 10 minutes he came back in the house and started to show me some pictures, i said lets go back up on the roof and look at the real thing. he showed me a couple squares drawn in chalk with some circles in it and said the circles where hail dents and there were not enough in the squares. i forgot the number required, but i was less then 50% of the required. the roofing company guys opened a bag and snapped some rubbery type pieces together that made the same size square and tossed it about ten feet away, drew and outline in chalk then did it two more times. then asked the adjuster to circle dents. they helped by finding the ones he missed, all three new squares had more dents then needed. yes, the roofing guys new exactly where the most dent would be. the adjuster said no problem, full replacement. He asked the 2 roofers if they would be joining us on the other two inspections would have an area they could outline and meet the requirements. they said they would be joining us and they could not even come close to finding enough dents but they are older and they could 100% guaranty that if they started doing a repair they would have to replace the felt underlay because it has nail holes in it and because there are uncovered nail holes they must pull off surrounding shingles to check for water damage. after removing all the shingles they would have to replace the felt no matter what. they could put the same shingles back on but there customer would not like the difference in the new and old weathered shingles. without even looking he approved the other two. the roofing company gave me $2500 cash for each house if i would put a small sign in each yard saying they replaced my roof for 30 days. yes, that is the same amount as my deductible. Allstate agreed to pay for upgraded underlay and shingles because the guaranty on the expensive ones would cover the cost of replacing them for 20 years. so i got 3 replacements, spent $0.00 , got all premium upgraded material, and my premiums went down over $100.00 a month on each house because they have a brand new roof. If your roof is 2 years old or fifteen years old, you pay the same premium, i prefer to keep mine new.
